The story behind the light
Sketches
We came up with several ways at once to beautify the Mahidol University concert hall lobby. In the end, we have decided to go with the concept created by Jana Růžičková, based on welded glass technique.
Turning light into music
Flashes of light, spreading throughout the building’s brains, responding to music resounding the concert hall. We’ve placed a mirror toward music and let it reflect itself in it its own way.
Production
We were looking for the best way to light up respective components. We’ve been sanding, blowing off, coarsening.
Components
Synapses, excitation centres, starfish, brain teaser... to a Czech, the basal component will always resemble the legendary hedgehog in a cage.
Transport
One of the greatest challenges was transporting glass components to the point of installation. We had to come up with an all new way of packaging for each component. Although we know that every transport needs its glass sacrifice, we minimized our losses in the end.
Light in space
Neural network that shines through from the heart of the concert hall reflects in the tranquil water surface making every flash of light multiply. Moreover, the lighting installation responds to music resounding the concert hall itself. The music thus merges in with the light, making up a single rhythm. Light is the mankind’s universal language.
