In the Sawa Lounge at Mandarin Oriental Muscat, Lasvit created a lighting installation inspired by rare spice collections. Surrounded by an interior designed in calm tones of ivory, grey, and black, the piece stands out as a vibrant expression of bespoke design drawing from the rich cultural and sensory traditions of the region.
Dozens of hand-blown glass spice jars with gold-plated caps are suspended in a vibrant cluster. Each jar contains small, brightly colored crystal glass components — like souvenirs from distant travels, evoking a visual blend of cultures, flavors, and memory. Together, they form a poetic, elevated expression of bespoke lighting.
More than a static object, the installation comes alive through dynamic lighting scenes. Light passes gradually through the composition or animates it with playful, seemingly random accents. In certain moments, the entire piece slowly rotates, adding a gentle rhythm and sense of motion to the space.
Though playful in form, the installation reflects Lasvit’s focus on material precision and design storytelling. The composition captures both the essence of a spice market and the elegance of glass. It’s not a chandelier. It’s not sculpture. It’s something in between — and entirely unique.
