The story behind the light
Genius Loci
Back in the day, this part of Hong Kong used to be shrouded in thick smoke. Now there is K11 Musea – a green building which was born like a phoenix from the ashes of former times. The Lighting Machine reflects all the attributes of the olden times – metal, industry and even steam.
Hundred Meters of Tubes
Altogether, 330 meters of metal tubes were needed to create this extraordinary chandelier. There are stop-clocks which seem to regulate the steam coming out of the chandelier at eight different places
Transport
The design was rapidly changed one month before opening and yet we made it to deliver the piece on time.
Installation
The whole piece was installed in tight time-schedule during one week before the grand opening.
Memory
Victoria Docks has rapidly changed over the last century. K11 is a building of the future. A place to discover new things, but a small piece of memory of the hub’s history lingers – The Lighting Machine – a breath of the century of steam.
