This year, the 20th iteration of the international festival of design and fashion is done in the spirit of “Celebration.” And we will not only be celebrating Designblok’s birthday, but also the 100th anniversary of the Republic. For this occasion, LASVIT brings in the collection which has recently received the Milanese design "Oscar." The design festival’s anniversary is not only a platform for international stars, but it is first and foremost an event true to the tradition of Czech design. LASVIT is a uniquely Czech glass company, and thus respects the hundreds of years of Czech glassmaking tradition, proudly carrying on in the legacy of Czech artists who had made Bohemian glass famous world-wide. The collection of monsters thus features the work of a number of Czech designers, like Maxim Velčovský or Stanislav Müller, as well as exhibiting works from some true legends of Czech art, such as Jaroslav Brychta, René Roubíček or Vladimír Kopecký. LASVIT’s collaboration with René Roubíček was one of the last artistic projects which this Czech glassmaking master ever undertook. Along with our glassmakers, Roubíček conceived a limited collection of twenty cute monsters made from uranium glass. He called them "Ufon," or UFOs. The showroom will feature 16 various monsters which simply cannot be summed up under one name, as each one is so very different from the others. Do you want to know what artists such as Yabu Pushelberg, Alessandro Mendini or Nendo imagine when you say “monster”? Find out starting October 24th in LASVIT’s showroom in Holešovice. Apart from the merry monsters, creative collections of lightings and glassware will also be presented.
